Fisher Cats fall to Rock Cats, 6-3; one game remains in ’14 season
New Britain erased a 2-1 deficit with a three-run fifth inning, and the Rock Cats went on to a 6-3 victory over the visiting New Hampshire Fisher Cats yesterday. The loss was the ninth in 11 games for the Fisher Cats, who dropped to 66-75 with one game remaining in the season.
New Hampshire went ahead 2-1 with two runs in the top of the fifth on doubles by Melky Mesa and Derrick Chung and an RBI single by Jorge Flores.
New Britain rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning against Fisher Cats starter Ben White, who was knocked out with two outs in the inning. He pitched 4.2, allowing six hits, a walk and four runs while striking out seven. He took the loss to fall to 1-1.
The Fisher Cats scored their final run in the eighth when Matt Newman doubled, Andy Burns walked and K.C. Hobson delivered an RBI single. But they left two men on base in the inning and seven in the game.
The teams play their final game of the season today at 1:35. Right-hander Casey Lawrence (9-9, 3.74) starts for the Fisher Cats.
