Denver Broncos receiver Wes Welker has been suspended for four games for failing a drug test, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported last night.

Schefter said sources told him that Welker, the former Patriot, tested positive for amphetamines from a sample he had given shortly after he attended the Kentucky Derby. Welker was excused from Broncos practice Aug. 20-21, sources told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, to appeal the finding.

Welker returned to practice yesterday while recovering from a concussion but has yet to be cleared to play in Denver’s season opener Sunday at home against Indianapolis.
