Youth basketball

The White Knights won the 7th- and 8th-grade boys’ basketball championship in Concord Parks and Rec. by beating the Orange team, 32-31. High school basketball

NHTI will be the hosting the annual NH Chips All-Star Underclassmen Showcase basketball games Friday with the girls’ game at 5:45 p.m. and the boys’ game at 7:30 p.m. Local participants for the boys will be Pat Welch (Pembroke) and Jordain Bell (Bishop Brady). Taylor Ong (Bishop Brady) and Jen Schlim (Coe-Brown) will be playing on the girls’ team.

Youth hockey

The Henniker Huskies Firman Electric Squirt team lost to the Jr. Monarchs in the GSL semifinals in overtime, 4-3. Goals were scored by Darren Earley, Cabot Lineberry and Drew O’Brien. Ainsley King played well in net. The Huskies played well defensively and came in third place overall.

Plymouth State results

The Castleton State College men’s lacrosse team defeated Plymouth State, 7-6. Stephen Patch led the Panthers’ offense, scoring twice and dishing out two assists, while Brett Miller added a goal and an assist.

∎ The top three hitters in the Plymouth State University softball line-up combined to go 6-for-8 with three extra-base hits and three runs scored yesterday morning as the Panthers edged SUNY Plattsburgh, 3-2. The second game was a different story, as PSU managed just five hits and dropped a 10-2 decision to Bethany College. Bekah Jackson and Jackie Digman each went 2-for-3 against Plattsburgh, with Jackson clocking her first home run of the season and scoring twice. Digman had a double and an RBI. Calli DeGrace was 2-for-2 with a walk and a triple.

∎ The PSU baseball team lost to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 6-4. The Panthers (4-1) got on the board with a two-run single from Brandon Cox in the third frame. Dave Tammaro added another single to score Cox and pull the Panthers to within 6-3. PSU rounded out the scoring in the fifth inning when Paul Reny came home on Cox’s infield groundout.

Baseball tryouts

Youngsville baseball will hold tryouts for 8-12-year-olds March 30 at Youngsville Cal Ripken Park from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The following towns are eligible for the league: Auburn, Allenstown, Bedford, Candia, Chester, Derry, Deerfield, Epsom, Goffstown, Hooksett, Manchester, Pembroke and Raymond. Youth football tryouts

Pembroke Junior Spartans football and cheer programs are continuing with their sign-ups for the 2013 football season. Upcoming sign-up dates are April 7 and May 5 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Pembroke Town Library, and June 2 from 10 a.m.-noon at Three Rivers School in Pembroke. The program is available for all kids from Allenstown, Pembroke, Chichester, Epsom and Hooksett. Grades 5-8 are eligible to participate. Go to pfof.org or contact Lisa Wiggin at 219-3179.

Soccer players wanted

Loudon Freedom Soccer Club is looking for U12 and U14 girls to play during the upcoming spring season, which starts in mid-April. Cost for the spring session is $125, not including uniform cost.

Youth gymnastics classes

The University of New Hampshire gymnastics program announces that gymnastics classes for school-age community children are being offered Wednesday afternoons at the UNH Fieldhouse through May 1 . Classes of all levels for boys and girls are taught in a safe, progressive manner. The spring session, which debuted March 13, features two separate class times: 4:15-5:15 p.m. (Session A) and 5:15-6:15 p.m. (Session B). Each session costs $90 plus a $20 registration fee if not already paid for the 2012-13 school year. Contact Melanie Brown at 862-4148 or melanie.brown@unh.edu.

Meetings

JOHN STARK SPRING SPORTS parent/athlete meeting will be held March 28 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. After a brief presentation by the athletic director, parents and athletes will be sent to various classrooms to meet with their specific coaches. All athletes and at least one parent/guardian are expected to attend. If you cannot attend, you must contact the coach to make alternate arrangements.

Tryouts/registrations

Bow Youth Football will be holding registrations for the 2013 season at Bow Memorial School today from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Bow Youth Football is open to all players entering grades 3-8 in the fall.

LACONIA LACROSSE CLUB is getting registration under way for the upcoming season, with practices starting this week. The club is open to boys and girls from Laconia and surrounding towns (including Belmont, Meredith, Center Harbor and Tilton) at the U9, U11, U13 and U15 levels. New fee for first-time players is $50; family fee is $95. For U9 players (boys and girls who did not turn 9 before Sept. 1, 2012), registration is free. Space is limited. RUNDLETT MIDDLE SCHOOL spring track signups will be held today from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the school.

CHALLENGER DIVISION BASEBALL registration is Saturday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Dick’s Sporting Goods. The league is a separate division of Little League to enable boys and girls with physical and mental challenges, ages 4-18, or up to age 22 if still enrolled in high school, to enjoy baseball. LAKES REGION FLAG FOOTBALL League’s women’s spring season registration is under way and open to all women in the Lakes Region area older than 18 as of April 1, 2013. The seven-week season starts April 19 at 7 p.m. with hour-long games played Fridays on the Inter-Lakes High turf field. The LRFFL youth flag football league is open to all boys and girls in the Lakes Region area between the ages of 4-17. There are five co-ed age divisions: 4-6, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17. Players needed

TEAM NH BASEBALL/NH GRIZZLIES is looking for some qualified baseball players at the U14 and U15 levels to attend games/tournaments during the summer season. Events

John Stark winter sports awards night for all athletes, parents and family will take place Thursday. The evening will start in the gym at 6 p.m. where all teams will be recognized as well as presenting Sportsmanship and Scholar-Athlete awards. The evening will conclude by programs moving into individual classrooms for team specific recognition and dessert.

COE-BROWN NORTHWOOD ACADEMY is accepting nominations for its 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction. Applications can be obtained through the main office or at coebrown.org on the “Athletics” page. Concord Recreation is offering the following programs for the spring season: spring basketball league (for ages 4 through 2nd grade) at the Green Street Community Center through April 13; “Sporties For Shorties” (ages 4-6), an introductory class to several sports, at the New Heights Community Center, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Tuesdays through April 9; 5K YES I CAN! program, a running group designed to help new runners complete a 5K race, meets twice a week from April 4-June 6 (Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.); Adult Tennis League (ages 16+), a league designed for advanced beginners to intermediate level players in singles and doubles and runs Tuesdays from May 7-June 11 from 7-8 p.m. at the Merrill Park Tennis Courts; Youth Tennis League (ages 16+), a coach-assisted league for children who are able to play games at a beginner level, league runs Thursdays from May 9-June 13 from 6-7 p.m. at the Merrill Park Tennis Courts; youth tennis lessons (ages 8-15, check website for times and dates). Baseball clinic, Pembroke Academy’s third annual, will be held Sunday at Pembroke Academy from 9 a.m.-noon for 8-12-year-olds. The clinic will be run by players and coaches of PA. CONCORD HIGH Meet the Coach Night will be held April 4 at 7 p.m. in the CHS auditorium. All spring athletes and their parent/guardians are expected to attend. Also, all CHS spring sport team photos will be taken April 4 at 3 p.m. at CHS.

SUMMER BASEBALL camp to benefit CHAD (Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth) and the Red Sox Foundation will be held July 1-5 (no camp on July 4) from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Pembroke Academy. Cost is $80 for the week, which includes two tickets to the NH Fisher Cats game against Binghamton. Camp is open to both boys and girls ages 6-14.
