Hockey champions

The Concord Orthopaedics Concord Capitals Girls U12 team (above) recently won the New England Regional Girls U12 Tier 2 championship in Woodstock, Vt., beating Greenwich, Conn., 5-0 in the final. UNH result

Kayleigh Hinkle (goal, assist) scored a goal as time expired to lead the University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team (2-5) to a 12-11 win over Columbia. Jenny Simpson led the Wildcats with three goals, while Laura McHoul and Rachael Nock scored two apiece.

Plymouth State results

The Plymouth State University men’s lacrosse team doubled up Massachusetts Maritime, 14-7. Chris Annunciata led the Panthers with four goals and an assist. Zach Frank had two goals and two assists, and Ty Long added two goals and one assist.

∎ Junior Zach Cogswell (a former Pembroke Academy pitcher) pitched six scoreless innings in relief to lead the PSU baseball team to a 5-4 win over Utica. Cogswell allowed just five hits and a walk and struck out four to earn his first win of the season. Dan Armstrong had four hits, including the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure the win.

∎ Sophomore Meghan McNabb scored two goals (including the game-winner) and tallied two assists to lead the PSU women’s lacrosse team (1-1) to a win over Colorado College, 8-7. Caitlin Swanson and Amy MacDonald added two goals apiece.

Youth soccer

Four players on the Loudon Freedom Soccer Club team were named to the NH Olympic Development teams. McKayla Palhof will be playing on the U12 team, while Gwen Tupman, Heather Sefton and Kaliana Palhof will be on the U13 team.

Rundlett track sign-ups

Rundlett Middle School boys’ and girls’ track sign-ups will be Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 in the RMS cafe. Anyone in 6th, 7th or 8th grade is eligible to participate. Please see Mr. Bragg or Mr. Owen with questions.


LACONIA LACROSSE CLUB registration is under way for the upcoming season, with practices starting this week. The club is open to boys and girls from Laconia and surrounding towns (including Belmont, Meredith, Center Harbor and Tilton) at the U9, U11, U13 and U15 levels. New fee for first-time players is $50; family fee is $95. For U9 players (boys and girls who did not turn 9 before Sept. 1, 2012), registration is free. Space is limited. CAPITAL CITY VIPERS football and cheerleading registrations are tomorrow at the Concord Boys & Girls Club from 5-6:30 p.m. The March board meeting will be held immediately following registration.

CHALLENGER DIVISION BASEBALL registration is Saturday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Dick’s Sporting Goods. The league is a separate division of Little League to enable boys and girls with physical and mental challenges, ages 4-18, or up to age 22 if still enrolled in high school, to enjoy baseball. Granite State Raiders basketball registration and tryouts will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Concord Boys and Girls Club. A $30 sign-up fee will be required. Saturday’s tryouts are as follows: 7th-grade-and-under boys at 8 a.m., 8th- and 9th-grade boys at 9 a.m., 9th-11th-grade girls at 10 a.m., and 10th-11th-grade boys at 11 a.m. Sunday’s tryouts are as follows: 8th-grade-and-under girls at noon, 9th-11th-grade girls at 1 p.m., 7th-grade boys at 2 p.m., 8th-9th-grade boys at 3 p.m. and 10th-11th-grade boys at 4 p.m. Contact Frank Alosa at 491-2495.

Youngsville baseball tryouts for 8-12-year-olds will be held March 30 at Youngsville Cal Ripken Park from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The following towns are eligible for the league: Auburn, Allenstown, Bedford, Candia, Chester, Derry, Deerfield, Epsom, Goffstown, Hooksett, Manchester, Pembroke and Raymond. Pembroke Junior Spartans football and cheer programs are continuing with their sign-ups for the 2013 football season. Upcoming sign-up dates are April 7 and May 5 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Pembroke Town Library, and June 2 from 10 a.m.-noon at Three Rivers School in Pembroke. LAKES REGION FLAG FOOTBALL League’s women’s spring season registration is under way and open to all women in the Lakes Region area older than 18 as of April 1, 2013. The seven-week season starts April 19 at 7 p.m. with hour-long games played Fridays on the Inter-Lakes High turf field. The LRFFL youth flag football league is open to all boys and girls in the Lakes Region area between the ages of 4-17. There are five co-ed age divisions: 4-6, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17. Register at

John Stark winter sports awards night for all athletes, parents and family will take place today. The evening will start in the gym at 6 p.m. where all teams will be recognized as well as presenting Sportsmanship and Scholar-Athlete awards. The evening will conclude by programs moving into individual classrooms for team specific recognition and dessert.

SENIOR NHBCO ALL-STAR basketball games will be played as scheduled Saturday, with the following schedule: D-3 vs. D-4 girls (1 p.m.); D-1 vs. D-2 girls (2:30 p.m.); D-3 vs. D-4 boys (5:45 p.m.); and D-1 vs. D-2 boys (7:15 p.m.).

UNH gymnastics program is holding classes for school-age community children Wednesday afternoons at the UNH Fieldhouse through May 1. Baseball clinic, Pembroke Academy’s third annual, will be held Sunday at Pembroke Academy from 9 a.m.-noon for 8-12-year-olds. The clinic will be run by players and coaches of PA. CONCORD HIGH Meet the Coach Night will be held April 4 at 7 p.m. in the CHS auditorium. All spring athletes and their parent/guardians are expected to attend. Also, all CHS spring sport team photos will be taken April 4 at 3 p.m. at CHS.

SUMMER BASEBALL camp to benefit CHAD (Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth) and the Red Sox Foundation will be held July 1-5 (no camp on July 4) from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Pembroke Academy. Cost is $80 for the week, which includes two tickets to the NH Fisher Cats game against Binghamton. Camp is open to both boys and girls ages 6-14. JOHN STARK SPRING SPORTS parent/athlete meeting will be held March 28 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. After a brief presentation by the athletic director, parents and athletes will be sent to various classrooms to meet with their specific coaches. All athletes and at least one parent/guardian are expected to attend. If you cannot attend, you must contact the coach to make alternate arrangements.
