Three Wildcats make Hockey East all-star teams

University of New Hampshire defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk was named to the Hockey East First Team last night as the league announced its all-star teams and major award winners.

Van Riemsdyk was joined on the All-Hockey East teams by teammates Casey DeSmith (goaltender) and Kevin Goumas (forward), who were both named honorable mention.

The top awards went to Boston College forward Johnny Gaudreau, who was named Player of the Year; Providence goalie Jon Gillies, who was named Rookie of the Year; and UMass Lowell’s Norm Bazin, who was named Coach of the Year.

Van Riemsdyk, a sophomore, has seven goals and 24 assists for 31 points and a plus-6 rating for the Wildcats, who will find out if they make the NCAA tournament on Sunday night. DeSmith, a sophomore, is 18-9-7 with a 2.24 GAA and a .924 save percentage. Goumas, a junior, leads the Wildcats with 42 points, 32 assists and a plus-18 rating while also scoring 10 goals, tied for fourth on the team.
