The Angelina’s Restaurant Concord Capitals Squirt 2 team defeated Methuen, Mass., 4-2, on Saturday. The Caps had four goal scorers: Cooper Leppard, Parker Frederikson, James Shea and Brett Patnode. Hayden Parent assisted on the Shea tally. Playing well defensively were Ian Dennison, Eaton Tarbell, Nate Carter, Aiden Pope and Arhat Vadiya. John Hinkle played a great game in goal for the Caps as he turned away multiple shots on net. The Capitals defeated Nashoba, Mass., 5-2, in a Sunday game. Goals came from Patnode, Noah Drew, Alex Pfeifer, Cam McGonigle and Zac Drew. Adding assists were Patnode and Zac Drew. Alex Reynolds had an outstanding performance in net making many saves. Defensivly Dennison, Tarbell, Leppard, Pope, Carter and Vadiya all played extremely well.
∎ The Schaefer Mortgage Concord Capitals PeeWee 2 won a pair of Valley Hockey League games over the weekend. The Caps beat a strong Tri-Valley Indians PeeWee 1 team, 3-2, behind a strong day in goal from Jackson Hinkell, who made a series of great saves. Anthony Velez, Max Hinkell and Devin Philbrick scored for the Caps, while Lil Ricker, Kyle McKinnon and Elijah Czysz had strong games on the forecheck. In the second VHL game, the Caps exploded offensively, beating the Seacoast Spartans, 7-0. Czysz (two goals), Jake Nelson (one goal, one assist), Andrew Paquette (one goal, two assists), Anders Norton (one goal, one assist), Carter Gaglia and Velez scored for the Caps with Evan Makris and Noah Dumont adding assists. A strong team effort on defense and a series of great saves by Jackson Hinkell in the final minutes preserved the shutout. The Caps head into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in their tier.
The UNH women’s lacrosse team lost its conference opener to Albany, 11-6. Laura McHoul (one goal, two assists) and Laura Puccia (two goals) were the only multiple-point scorers for the Wildcats. Kathleen Keefe made seven saves. UNH (2-6, 0-1 AE) led 4-3 at halftime.
The Lakes Region Flag Football League is holding a “Demo Day” Saturday from 1-4 p.m. on the Inter-Lakes High School turf field. This event is free.

UNH gymnastics program is holding classes for school-age community children Wednesday afternoons at the UNH Fieldhouse through May 1. The spring session, which began March 13, features two separate class times: 4:15-5:15 p.m. (session A) and 5:15-6:15 p.m. (session B). JOHN STARK SPRING SPORTS parent/athlete meeting will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. After a brief presentation by the athletic director, parents and athletes will be sent to various classrooms to meet with their specific coaches. Pembroke Junior Spartans football and cheer programs are continuing with their sign-ups for the 2013 football season. Upcoming sign-up dates are April 7 and May 5 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Pembroke Town Library, and June 2 from 10 a.m.-noon at Three Rivers School in Pembroke. CONCORD POST 21 Junior and Senior American Legion Baseball tryouts will be held April 7 (6-9 p.m.) at Concord Sports Center. Players eligible to try out must attend Concord HS, Hopkinton HS, Merrimack Valley HS, Pembroke Academy, Bishop Brady HS, Pittsfield HS or Concord Christian Academy, or your residence must be closer to Concord HS than the high school that you currently attend. This year, players must be able to play for Concord Senior Legion (ages 14-19) in order to participate in the Concord Junior Program (ages 14-17). Your age on Jan. 1, 2013, is your relevant age for this season.
LAKES REGION FLAG FOOTBALL League’s women’s spring season registration is under way and open to all women in the Lakes Region area older than 18 as of April 1, 2013. The seven-week season starts April 19 at 7 p.m. with hour-long games played Fridays on the Inter-Lakes High turf field. The LRFFL youth flag football league is open to all boys and girls in the Lakes Region area between the ages of 4-17. There are five co-ed age divisions: 4-6, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17.
