Last-place IceCaps overtake Monarchs, 4-3

Eric O’Dell’s power-play goal 2:20 into the third period broke a 2-2 tie, and St. John’s teammate Ben Maxwell scored the eventual game-winner midway through the final period as the last-place IceCaps (27-33-1-4) beat the Manchester Monarchs, 4-3, yesterday.

The teams traded goals in each of the first two periods, but the Monarchs (30-28-3-4) never led. The IceCaps’ Kael Mouillierat and Manchester’s Linden Vey scored in the first period, while Maxwell scored the first of his two early in the second before Brandon Kozun answered for the Monarchs.

Marc-Andre Cliche pulled the Monarchs within a goal with 3:36 to play, but despite pulling goalie Martin Jones (29 saves), Manchester couldn’t net the equalizer.
