The Tilton School girls’ varsity lacrosse team dropped its first game of the season to New Hampton, 14-1. The Huskies jumped out to a 10-0 lead by halftime. Ashley Chronopolous scored the lone goal for Tilton.
∎ The Tilton boys’ JV lacrosse team lost its opening game of the year to Philips Exeter Academy, 13-7. The Big Red went ahead 5-0 early, but the Rams fought back to within one goal in the third quarter before Philips Exeter scored three straight. Mike Abu-Raab (four goals), Charlie Van Beaver (two) and Tom Cavanaugh scored for Tilton.
∎ The Tilton boys’ JV tennis team played the Dublin boys’ JV team to a tie, 3-3. Liang Guan (8-1 win) and the doubles groups of Charlie Schiess and Mikael Pluhar (8-4) and Jennifer McDowell and David Wang (9-8, 7-4 tie-breaker) picked up the three Tilton wins.
The Colby-Sawyer College men’s tennis team topped Norwich in Vermont, 8-1. The Chargers (6-4) swept the doubles matches and won all but the No. 2 singles match. Nathan Taschereau led Colby-Sawyer with a 6-4, 7-5 win in the No. 1 singles slot.
Plymouth State result
The Plymouth State University baseball team lost on the road at Daniel Webster, 9-7. The Panthers (10-8) held leads of 3-1 and 7-6 but gave up a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to allow the Eagles to pull ahead. Steve Beard, Jake Broom and Rob Madonna had two hits each for PSU.
The University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team lost at home to UVM, 12-4. The Catamounts scored eight consecutive goals in the second half to pull away from a narrow 4-3 lead. UNH (3-7) was led by Jenny Simpson and Laura McHoul, who recorded three points apiece.
∎ Sophomore defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk of the UNH men’s hockey team was named to the 2012-13 New England Men’s Division I All-Stars. Skating in all 39 games, van Riemsdyk had a career year. He totaled 33 points on eight goals and 25 assists, recording 11 multiple-point games.
Youth hockey clinic
The Tri-Town Ice Arena is offering a spring session of “Learn to Play Hockey” beginning April 22. The program is open to ages 4-10, and the cost is $99. Mother’s Day 3K race
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, along with Millennium Racing, will host a 3K road race May 12 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. There will also be a timed fun run geared toward families. The race starts at 9 a.m. at the stadium. The timed fun run and race cost $25, and kids 11 and under are free. After May 1, the registration cost will increase to $30. The first 200 registrations will include one box seat ticket to the Fisher Cats’ Father’s Day game on June 16, and the first 500 registrants will receive a commemorative race T-shirt. Concord Northeast Baseball and Softball League is holding a Special Meeting of the Members on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the East Congregational Church on Mountain Road. The proposed changes to the league’s by-laws will be discussed. Both the current by-laws and proposed changes can be found at concordnortheast.com. CONCORD POST 21 Junior and Senior American Legion Baseball tryouts will be held Sunday (6-9 p.m.) at Concord Sports Center. Players eligible to try out must attend Concord HS, Hopkinton HS, Merrimack Valley HS, Pembroke Academy, Bishop Brady HS, Pittsfield HS or Concord Christian Academy, or your residence must be closer to Concord HS than the high school that you currently attend. This year, players must be able to play for Concord Senior Legion (ages 14-19) in order to participate in the Concord Junior Program (ages 14-17). Your age on Jan. 1, 2013, is your relevant age for this season.

LAKES REGION FLAG FOOTBALL League’s women’s spring season registration is under way and open to all women in the Lakes Region area older than 18 as of April 1, 2013. The seven-week season starts April 19 at 7 p.m. with hour-long games played Fridays on the Inter-Lakes High turf field. The LRFFL youth flag football league is open to all boys and girls in the Lakes Region area between the ages of 4-17. There are five co-ed age divisions: 4-6, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17. CONCORD FLYERS girls’ track and field program will begin its 22nd year May 20 at the Memorial Field track. All area 3rd-8th-grade girls are eligible to participate. Practices will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evening (with a few exceptions) from 5:30-7 p.m. There will also be a few practice meets on Sunday mornings during late May and June from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The team will also travel to Manchester’s Livingston Park on Thursday evenings during late June and July for open meets that begin at 6 p.m. The registration fee for new team members is $80 (uniform included) and $40 for returning team members.
