Fisher Cats take fight out of Reading in 9-0 opening-night victory

John Tolisano and Ryan Schimpf hit home runs and Austin Bibens-Dirkx worked six shutout innings to lift the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 9-0 victory over the Reading Fightin Phils in the season opener before 6,224 last night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Bibens-Dirkx, a 27-year-old making his first start in the Toronto organization, allowed three hits, walked two and struck out six. Clint Everts (two innings) and Trystan Magnuson (one inning) completed the shutout for New Hampshire.

Leadoff hitter Kenny Wilson went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, and Brad Glenn went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

The teams meet again tonight at 6:35.
