The Schaefer Mortage Concord Capitals PeeWee 2 team (pictured) ended the season as AA Valley League Hockey champions, beating Melrose, Mass., 4-3. The Caps overcame a 2-0 deficit on goals by Anthony Velez (assisted by Jake Nelson and Devin Philbrick) and Evan Makris (assisted by Andrew Paquette), then got third-period goals from Max Hinkel (assisted by Elija Czysz) and Carter Gaglia (assisted by Anders Norton and Paquette). Goaltender Jackson Hinkle and Kyle McKinnon, Kambal Vaidya and Lil Ricker played well.
The Concord JV baseball team started the season with an 11-2 win over Trinity. Four Tide pitchers combined on a one-hitter. Jacob Szulc and Nick Dupre had three hits each, while Alex Orcutt, Rob Law, Connor Loughery and Will Scharlotte chipped in with two hits each.
St. Paul’s results
The St. Paul’s softball team defeated Tilton, 9-3, in its season opener. Tanina Cadwell notched 12 strikeouts while Caitlin Deardorff, Miller Torrance and Raven Young each drove in a pair of runs. Alyssa Ingerman also had an RBI. Joselyn Fuller hit a solo home run for the Rams and had two RBI, while GB Manganiello had three hits.
Tilton School results
The Tilton varsity baseball team lost to St. Paul’s, 12-2. Alex Lebowitz pitched well for the Rams, going five innings and striking out two. Blaise Healy, Alex Lebowitz and Alex Winkelmann had the Tilton hits. Harrison Schwarz played well defensively and also combined on a double play with Payton Baldillez.
The Colby-Sawyer College baseball team swept a doubleheader from New England College, 8-1 and 4-1. Mike Bowse earned the win in Game 1, tossing a three-hitter. Tyler Stotz went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI. Jeff Dunn earned the win in Game 2, with Kevin Keith earning the save. Scott Fortune and Kevin Caputo each singled twice for NEC.
The New England College women’s lacrosse team (4-7) beat Fitchburg State, 9-6, behind two goals apiece from Sarah Merrill, Meredith Merce and Elizabeth Bois.
UNH lax player honored
Laura McHoul, a freshman attack on the UNH women’s lacrosse team was named America East Rookie of the Week. McHoul scored 12 points (three goals, nine assists) on UNH’s 17 goals in two games last week. McHoul notched career-highs in both assists (seven) and points (nine) in a 13-12 come-from-behind victory over Binghamton over the weekend.
Concord baseball signups
Concord National Little League is still taking registration for t-ball ($60), pony ($80) and challenger leagues ($60) for boys and girls aged 5-8. Check out concordnationals.org. Capitol Area Race leaders
After two Capitol Area Race Series races, Ignacio Hernando of Manchester and the NHTI cross country team leads the men’s standings. The female leader is Abbey Wood of Laconia. The second and third males are Gilmanton’s Scott Clark and Gilford’s Ryan Lafrance, while he second and third females are Hopkinton’s Christin Doneski and Concord’s Katie Nadeau.
Charity golf tourney
The First Tee of New Hampshire is hosting its 10th Anniversary Golf Tournament at Baker Hill Golf Club. The Benefit Tournament will be held on June 17 at Baker Hill Golf Club, 101 Baker Hill Road, Newbury, NH. The start is 1 p.m and is best ball format. Reservations for foursomes are being accepted now. Space is limited. Donation is $230 per person and includes a box lunch, hors d’oeuvres and prizes, and a brief auction and cash bar will be available.
TEAM NH BASEBALL/NH GRIZZLIES is looking for some qualified baseball players at the U14 and U15 levels to attend games/tournaments during the summer season.
