McGuire leads Fisher Cats to 3-1 victory
Deck McGuire was dazzling for seven innings and got home run support from Adam Loewen and Kevin Pillar as New Hampshire (5-3) beat the Binghamton Mets (4-3), 3-1, last night in the Fisher Cats’ road opener.
McGuire (1-1) allowed one run on just two hits and one walk while striking out five. He lowered his ERA to 3.09. Fernando Hernandez and Chad Beck each pitched a scoreless inning in relief, with Beck earning his third save.
Loewen, added to the Fisher Cats roster just hours before the game, homered to tie the game at 1-1 in the seventh inning. In the eighth, John Tolisano led off with a single and two batters later Pillar (2-for-4) went deep to make it 3-1.
Loewen (2-for-3) and Clint Robinson (2-for-4) joined Pillar with multi-hit games as part of New Hampshire’s 10-hit attack.
The series continues tonight at 7:05 as righty Tyson Brummett makes his Fisher Cats debut. He’ll be opposed by Binghamton righty Tyler Pill (0-1, 7.20).
