Nanita’s big night spoiled as Fisher Cats blow lead
Designated hitter Ricardo Nanita’s return to lineup was spoiled when the New Hampshire Fisher Cats blew a two-run lead on the way to a 4-3 loss to the Binghamton Mets last night.
Nanita, who had been ill for several days, smacked a double and blasted his first home run of the season and finished with three hits.
Nanita figured into the Fisher Cats’ early rallies as New Hampshire (7-8) its lead. The Dominican doubled and scored on an Amadeo Zazueta single in the third. An inning later, his first home run started a two-run inning to build a 3-1 advantage.
The Mets (8-6) countered with three runs in the top of the sixth against starter Ryan Tepera (5 1∕3 innings, three earned runs) and reliever Chorye Spoone.
In the ninth, Nanita picked up his third hit of the game with one out, but he was thrown out at second base trying to stretch a single into a double.
The series continues tonight at 6:35. Austin Bibens-Dirkx (1-2, 3.57) starts for the Fisher Cats against Erik Goeddel (1-1, 3.48).
