McCarty, Espindola lead Red Bulls past Revolution
Dax McCarty and Fabian Espindola scored in the first half to lead the New York Red Bulls to a 4-1 victory over the New England Revolution last night.
Thierry Henry and Jonny Steele had second-half goals to help the Red Bulls (3-4-2) extend the Revolution’s winless streak to 0-3-2.
New England (1-3-2) has not won at New York since 2007, a span of eight games. Coming in with just one goal on the season, the Revolution avoided another shutout thanks to an own-goal by Red Bulls defender Brandon Barklage in the sixth minute.
The teams opened the game with a tribute to Boston. The introductory song was switched from the Red Bulls Anthem to “Dirty Water,” a song with Boston ties as a banner in the home cheering section was read “New York Stands With Boston.”
