Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz was voted American League Pitcher of the Month for April.
Buchholz compiled a 5-0 record with a 1.19 ERA, 39 strikeouts and 13 walks in 37 2∕3 innings over five starts to help the Red Sox match the all-time club record with 18 wins in April. Buchholz also won Pitcher of the Month Award for August 2010.
Among qualifying starters in the AL, Buchholz finished tied for first in wins and was second in ERA, fifth in opponent batting average (.192), tied for seventh in strikeouts and tied for eighth in innings pitched.
Buchholz then improved to 6-0 and lowered his ERA to 1.01 with a victory over the Blue Jays on the first day of May.
He is also the first Red Sox to take the award in April since Derek Lowe in 2002.
