Fisher Cats rally, only to lose to Sea Dogs in extras
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats rallied for a run in the seventh that eventually forced extra innings, but they couldn’t add any more against Portland reliever Pete Ruiz (three scoreless innings, win) as the Sea Dogs (26-18) claimed a 5-4, 10-inning win in Portland last night.
New Hampshire (23-24) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first only to see the Sea Dogs answer with two in the bottom of the frame. The Fisher Cats went back on top in the fourth thanks to solo home runs from Brian Van Kirk and Sean Ochinko, but again Portland answered immediately, this time with a two-run home run from Christian Vazquez.
Brad Glenn tied things up at 4-4 in the seventh inning with a double (one of six on the night for New Hampshire) that plated Ryan Schimpf. But Ruiz shut the Fisher Cats down after that, and Vazquez struck again in the 10th with a one-out triple. He came home on a hit from Heiker Menses to end it.
