University of Maine names Gendron new men’s ice hockey coach

The University of Maine named Red Gendron its men’s hockey coach, filling a void left when Tim Whitehead was fired at the end of the regular season.

As an assistant coach, Gendron was part of two national champions, coaching in Maine in 1993 and Yale this year. He was also working for the New Jersey Devils when they won the Stanley Cup in 1995, and got two more rings as an assistant and head coach, respectively, for New Jersey’s AHL team in Albany when the Devils won again in 2000 and 2003.
