Jacobo, Tepera lead Fisher Cats to third straight win
Gabe Jacobo made his first game of the season in Double-A a good one for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (44-46) last night.
Added to the roster earlier in the day after starting the season in Single-A, Jacobo went 3-for-4 with a home run to back Ryan Tepera in a 5-1 win over the Reading Fightin Phils (38-52). The victory is the Fisher Cats’ third in a row.
Trailing 4-1, Reading loaded the bases with only one out in the bottom of the fourth against Tepera. But after a visit from the pitching coach, Tepera recorded the next two outs on three pitches to end the threat. He completed his outing by retiring the final eight men he faced and allowed three hits and four walks in six innings to improve to 7-6.
Offensively, Andy Burns extended his hitting streak to a season-best seven games, while Kevin Ahrens had a double in the sixth to make it six straight for him.
The series continues tonight at 7:05 as Deck McGuire (4-7, 5.51) takes the ball against Reading’s Brody Colvin (3-2, 7.13).
