Thunder stops Fisher Cats’ winning streak at eight
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell in a 3-1 first-inning hole and never recovered, seeing their franchise record eight-game winning streak come to an end with a 9-2 loss to the Trenton Thunder last night.
The Fisher Cats grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Brad Glenn (3-for-4), but the Thunder responded with Yeral Sanchez’s three-run homer off Deck McGuire (5-8) in the home half of the inning.
McGuire didn’t allow another run through six innings, and Jack Murphy roped an RBI double in the fourth to pull New Hampshire within a run. But Trenton put it away with two runs in the seventh off Dustin Antolin and four in the eighth off Matt Wright.
Trenton (49-48) pulled within half a game of second-place New Hampshire (49-47) in the Eastern Division. The Fisher Cats trail division-leading Binghamton by 11 games.
