The NH Comets U16 Blue (27-8-1) softball team finished runner-up in the Bow Turn Two Tournament over the weekend. The tournament is the largest softball tournament in New England with 84 teams total, 20 in the U16 division. The Comets were the top seed after pool play with wins over Maine Riptide, NE Xtreme and NE Diamond Gems Orange. In single-elimination yesterday, the Comets knocked out the NE Xtreme and Maine Panthers in preliminary and quarterfinal play. The Comets beat their sister team, NH Comets U16 White, in the semifinals before falling to the NH Mystics in the final, 9-6.
Bob Mielcarz and Tom Bouchard teamed up to win the annual Dave Banks President’s Member-Guest at Concord Country Club. Sixty teams began the event, and 10 Division winners advanced to a “Shootout” elimination round. In the fifth round of the shootout, only Charlie Blake and his partner Chris Licata remained with the Mielcarz-Bouchard team. Mielcarz capped a stellar shot with a short birdie putt to win the title. Other divisional winners were the teams of Jim MacDonald-Rick Herrick, Kevin Hobbs-Bill LaBerge, Joe Morrison-Greg Milligan, Tim O’Meara-Rick Riley, Steve McAuliffe-Patrick Richardson, Doug Duval-Scott Duval, and Billy Hybsch-Gary Wadsworth.
∎ Duston Country Club held its two-day Member/Guest Tournament over the weekend. In the Ladies Division, Sandy Starkey and Carol Workman won low net (95). Starkey had the longest drive on Saturday and Sunday. In the Men’s Division, Brett Cusick and Joe Grogan won low gross (94); Bob Dunlap and Mark Fournier won 1st low net (78); there was a card-off for second, third and fourth net with a score of (81), with Tom Flanagan and Al Appel second low net, Cal Varney and Joe McGahan third low net and Bill Gould and Gary Morin fourth low net; Jeff Hicks won closest to the pin on Saturday and Sunday; Tom Flanagan won longest drive on Saturday; and Jeff Hicks won longest drive on Sunday.

The City A singles tournament will start today at 5:15 p.m. at the Bow Brook Club. Top-seeded Ron Lafond and second-seed George Lagos have first-round byes.
