Softball champs

The U12 NH Comets finished the Junior Olympic softball season as Nor’Easter Classic champions in Meredith. The Comets went 6-0 over the weekend, led by the defense of Olivia McCarty, Nicole Cacciola and Grace Hallet. The Comets beat the NH Cannons in the opening game, with Jada Duvert scoring three runs, then Kendall Hamilton, Aniecia Vargas and Anita DiBuono each had two hits to beat the Nor’Easters, 11-1. Olivia Baldyga led the way from the circle in the next game, allowing one run against the Methuen Rangers. In the quarterfinals, Lauryn Colby delivered a one-hit, no-walk pitching performance to beat the Inter-Lakes Angels, 2-1. Abby Santis and Lacy McNeel both doubled in the semifinals to lead the team past the New England Diamond Gems, 6-4. Abby Rochette threw a one-hit shutout to beat the Shrewsbury Shockers in the championship game, 3-0. The Comets outscored their opponents 41-8 in the six games.

Golf results

In recent Loudon Country Club Member/Member play, Calvin Murphy and Gary Volpe (92) took first place for gross score, Bob Bean and Ric Riel (79) were first in net score, and Gary and Claire Philippy (82) were the runner-up duo in net score.

Golf tournaments

The Bill Heinz Memorial youth golf tournament is set for Aug. 17-18 at Concord Country Club and Beaver Meadow Golf Course. Entry forms are located at area clubs and must include an entry fee of $15 posted no later than Aug. 10. All area high school golf teams are welcome to use the tournament as qualifying rounds for the school’s fall golf program.

∎ The Men’s City Golf championship will be played Aug. 24-25 at Concord Country Club and Loudon Country Club. Entry forms are located at the area clubs and must be accompanied with the entry fee of $60. Deadline for entry is Aug. 14. Players must have a current handicap and be a member at one of the local host clubs or a resident of Concord. Play in the championship flight will be gross score, and all other flights based on handicap will be contested as net score.

In addition, all incoming freshmen and juniors must take the ImPACT baseline test prior to participating. Dates and times when the test will be offered are on the John Stark Athletic Department web page.

Camps/clinics/lessons

Pembroke Summer Recreation Program is still open for registration at the Pembroke Highway Department. The six-week program is open to any Pembroke or Allenstown children entering grades 1-6. The program runs through Aug. 16, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Memorial Field in Pembroke. Extended hours for early drop-off or late pick-up are available for an additional $10/week. A $15 non-refundable registration fee is required, and the cost of the program is $45/week for Pembroke residents and $55/week for Allenstown residents. Cost includes a weekly field trip. WILDCAT BASKETBALL Day Camp will be held at UNH through Thursday for children entering grades 2-9. AMOSKEAG ROWING CLUB still has spots available for its Junior Sculling Camp B, held at the club in Hooksett on the Merrimack River. CONCORD FENCING CLUB is offering three-week introductory and intermediate fencing lessons for kids ages 7-14. Classes meet twice weekly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the intro class from 10-11:30 a.m. and intermediate lessons from 1-2:30 p.m. Lessons start today. Cost is $120. FIELD HOCKEY CAMP will be held at the Bow High field hockey field Monday-Friday from Aug. 5-16 from 8-10 a.m. The Back to Basics camp is free for all Bow and Dunbarton elementary school students entering grades 3-5. Soccer camp at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy is accepting registrations. Camp runs Monday-Aug. 9 from 8 a.m.-noon for athletes entering grades 4-8. Registration is $85. The Coe-Brown Soccer Academy, for all area high school soccer players, will have a certified athletic trainer and strength/conditioning coach on staff. BELMONT PARKS & REC is hosting a British Challenger Soccer Camp Monday-Aug. 9 at Bryant Field: a first kicks camp for 3-year-olds will be held from 11 a.m.-noon, a mini soccer camp for 4-5-year-olds from 9-10:30 a.m., and either a half-day of full-day camp for 6-16-year-olds.
