Youth softball

The U16 NH Lightning qualified for the ASA U16 Nationals in Maryland after winning the Caroline Farley tournament in the U18 Division over the weekend. The Lightning played two pool play games on Wednesday, beating Maryland, 5-4, and Ohio, 6-4, and now will play double-elimination action. All of the girls are from the greater Concord area. Team members are Aelin Shea, Ali Kennedy, Delanie Pickering, Deb Morrill, Rachel Stevenson, Hannah Seidner, Dani Morrill, Miller Torrance, Katherine Muzzy, Cassidy Emerson, Molly Emerson and Mikaela Leighton. They are coached by Dave Morrill, Erik Stevenson and Gary Seidner.

Golf results

Bob Mahoney, Bill Leber, Tim Heath and Dick Markuns placed first in yesterday’s Mojalaki Senior League event. Jerry Moore, Jim Minard, Frank Martin and Winton Prusia took second, while in third place was the team of Craig Smith, Wayne Andrews, Nick Pirog and Ralph Dixon. Jerry Morin, Nick Pirog, Ed Vigneault and Ted Andrus came in fourth. The longest-drive contest was won by Dave Palfrey and the closest-to-the-pin winner was Al Robertson. The Mojalaki Senior League plays every Thursday at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.

∎ In yesterday’s two ball best event at the Concord Country Club, the team of Hugh Emerson and Donald Steenbeke Sr. took first place with a score of 60. In second place with a score of 62 was the team of Dick Baxter and George Shelton. Emerson recorded his first hole in one on the par-3 16th. He used an 8-iron on the 149-yard hole, with his playing partners Jim Henderson, Dennis Ducharme and Shelton.

Youth softball tryouts

The Nor’Easter Softball Club will be conducting tryouts for its 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U teams at the Belmont High softball field Aug. 11. The 10U tryout begins at noon, 12U at 1 p.m., 14U at 2 p.m. and 16U at 3 p.m. The Nor’Easter Softball Club is Lakes Region-based and affiliated with ASA. A parent or guardian must attend the tryout and provide a copy of a birth certificate. Visit noreastersoftball.org for registration and emergency information forms to be filled out prior to workouts. Road race

The seventh annual Friendly Kitchen 5K race, 2.5K Fitness Walk and Children’s Fun Run will be Sept. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at NHTI. There will be food, music, age group prizes and a giant raffle. Contact pseagroves@ccsnh.edu.

Players wanted

Flag Football Registration is now open for the fall season of the Lakes Region Flag Football League. The early registration fee is $60. GRANITE STATE GAMERS 2013-14 fast pitch softball tryouts for the 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U squads will be Monday-Tuesday and Aug. 13 at West Side Arena on 25 Electric Street in Manchester. NEW HAMPSHIRE MYSTICS, a fast pitch softball organization, is holding tryouts for 16U and 14U teams at the Center School in Windham. The 16U team will hold tryouts on Tuesday-Wednesday and 12th from 6-7:30 p.m. (registration at 5:30 p.m.). The 14U team will hold tryouts on Monday-Tuesday and Aug. 14; on Monday and the 14th, tryouts will be 6-7:30 p.m. (registration at 5:30 p.m.), and on Tuesday, tryouts will be 5-6:30 p.m. (registration at 4:30 p.m.). Pembroke Summer Recreation Program is still open for registration at the Pembroke Highway Department. The six-week program is open to any Pembroke or Allenstown children entering grades 1-6. The program runs through Aug. 16, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Memorial Field in Pembroke. Extended hours for early drop-off or late pick-up are available for an additional $10/week.
