Schimpf homers twice as Fisher Cats beat Fightin Phils, 12-4
Ryan Schimpf hit two home runs, taking over the Eastern League lead with 22, and Marcus Stroman allowed two runs in 5 2∕3 innings for his eighth win as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats opened a road series with a 12-4 victory in Reading last night.
Schimpf’s first homer, a two-run shot, was part of a four-run fourth inning that erased a 1-0 deficit and gave the Fisher Cats the lead for good. He added a solo homer in the sixth and finished 2-for-4 with four RBI. Adam Loewen went 3-for-4 with a homer (his 15th), three RBI and four runs.
Stroman (8-4) allowing five hits and two walks. He struck out eight.
