Golf results

After the first round of play in the State Senior Championship at Kingswood Golf Club, Bill Everett and John Esterbrook are tied for first place. Den Brae’s Jack Benson currently sits in fourth place, while Concord’s Dan Schultz (fifth place) and Bob Meilcarz (sixth place) are also top contenders heading into the final 18 holes today.

∎ The Boscawen Old Home Day Golf Classic was held Aug. 22 at the Den Brae Golf Resort. The Men’s Division resulted in a tie for first at 62 between defending champions The Heating Hot Shots, captained by Matt Rabideau with Joe DiPietro, Al Romano and Jeremy Kyle, and the team of Drapeau’s Oldies led by Ron Drapeau with Jerrod Drapeau, Dave Cullen and Teron Cullen. Third place with a round of 64 went to The Four Putz, led by captain Mark Davis with Chad Davis, Rob Whiting and Mark Nadeau. In the highly competitive Mixed/Ladies Division, the winner with a 67 was Team Huckleberry with co-captains David and Tracy Huckins, supported by Rod and Donna Osborne.

∎ Concord Country Club’s Gene Connor aced the 4th hole of his home course for his third ever hole-in-one. Connor used a 5-wood on the 190-yard par-3 in the company of his playing companions Hal Anderson, Al LaPierre and Gene Wheeler. It was Connor’s first ace at Concord. Not to be outdone, Concord High School’s Brendan Wills aced the same hole a few hours later with a 6-iron for his first ever hole-in-one. Playing with Wills were teammates Lucas Karathanasis, Matt LaTourette and Tim Levins.

Men’s softball

Team Delta Dental/Craigue and Sons began the playoff season with a 29-7 victory over Gilbert Builders. Kenny Bliss belted two home runs and Steve Rook was the winning pitcher.

A Baseball camp hosted by Chicago Cubs minor leaguer Brad Zapenas will take place Sept. 21 for all area players ages 8-16, as well as coaches and parents, at the North Common baseball field behind Holman Stadium in Nashua. The Concord Family YMCA Triathlon At Clough will take place Sept. 22. Registration is under way at concordymca.org. There is no race day registration; the registration deadline is Sept. 14. The race features a beautiful open-water swim, followed by a bike ride on the roads of Dunbarton, Goffstown and Weare, before finishing with a scenic run through the park on established trails. Fitness Challenge hosted by the NHTI Athletic Department will take place Sept. 22 at 8 a.m. at NHTI. “Quonquer the Quad” features teams of four competing in a variety of events on the course designed by NHTI alumnus Eric Marsh of FIT (Fun Intelligent Training). Special prizes will be awarded to the top teams along with shirts for the first 12 teams to register. All proceeds will benefit the Jen Kemp Scholarship fund for NHTI students.
