Youth football

The Concord Capitols third-grade team opened its season last weekend with an impressive victory over a formidable Windham Wolverines team. Peter Reid led the offense with two touchdowns (a 65-yard rush and a 6-yard reception from Chris Grimbilas). The offensive line dominated, with strong performances by Austin Wells and Joe Bourbeau. The defense gave up only one touchdown and was led by multiple key tackles from Colby Despres, Noah Blake and Bryce Miller. Jacob Plante executed a critical onside kick to start the third quarter, which led to the game winning TD.

Golf results

Three teams tied for first place yesterday at Concord Concord Country Club’s two ball best ball event. The three teams, George Shelton and Dick Baxter, Hugh Emerson and Craig Keeler, and George Shelton and Craig Keeler, all finished with a score of 62.

∎ Jerry Morin, Ed Vigneault, Gerard Parenteau and Ray Craigie formed the winning team in the Mojalaki Senior League yesterday morning. Gil Lambert, Jerry Moore, Ted Andrus and Jim Whelan came in second. Bill McNamara, Roland Robichaud and Tim Heath finished third, and Pete Sorette, Walter Kulacz, George Ewing and John Walker came in fourth. Closest-to-the-pin contests were won by Dick Ennis and Tom Adams.

∎ The Loudon Country Club Ladies League ended with the team of Mary Straight and Terry Comstock finishing in first place. Beth Adams and Cindy Brown were second, and Karen Landry and Gail MacInnis finished third. Winning the Tee Toddler League was Judy Gilmore and Diane Modugno, while Mary Mayo and Mary Clarke finished second.

Bow soccer registrations

Bow Recreation has openings for fall soccer for children ages 3-6 starting Wednesday. Three-year-olds meet Wednesdays from 12:15-12:45 p.m., and 4-6-year-olds meet Wednesdays from 1-1:45 p.m. or Thursdays from 9:45-10:30 a.m. or 12:30-1:15 p.m. Call at 228-2222 for information.

Patriot Day golf tourney

The Patriot Golf Day tournament will be held today and run through Monday at Beaver Meadow. Patriot Golf Day is part of the Folds of Honor Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides postsecondary educational scholarships for the children and spouses of military men and women disabled or killed while serving. Cost is $46 for 18 holes with a cart. Closest-to-the-pin contests will be held. Call 228-8954 to book a tee time.

Fall softball league

The Capital Area Babe Ruth Softball Organization is offering senior girls (ages 12-17) fall softball starting Sept. 14 and running for six Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. at Towle Field in Concord. Cost will be $25 for 2013 Babe Ruth players and $35 for all others. Players from outside the Concord area are welcome to participate. To sign up or for information call 228-3742.

Softball clinic

Concord National Youth Softball is hosting softball skills clinics at Martin Field at 5:30 p.m. Sundays beginning Sept. 8 for players ages 5-14. Cost is $10 per session and players must complete a Consent To Treat form at the field.

Softball players needed

The NH Lady Cannons have a few roster spots open on its 12U, 14U and 16U teams. Teams have a fall schedule and complete winter workouts at the Concord Sport Center and will compete in seven summer ASA and NSA tournaments. Camps/clinics/lessons

SCORING CONCEPTS Hockey Training is holding weekly clinics at the Plymouth State University ice rink Wednesday nights in July and August. The clinics will run 6:30-7:45 p.m. and cost $30 per session. Meetings

A Baseball camp hosted by Chicago Cubs minor leaguer Brad Zapenas will take place Sept. 21 for all area players ages 8-16, as well as coaches and parents, at the North Common baseball field behind Holman Stadium in Nashua. The Concord Family YMCA Triathlon At Clough will take place Sept. 22. Registration is under way at concordymca.org. There is no race day registration; the registration deadline is Sept. 14. The race features a beautiful open-water swim, followed by a bike ride on the roads of Dunbarton, Goffstown and Weare, before finishing with a scenic run through the park on established trails. Fitness Challenge hosted by the NHTI Athletic Department will take place Sept. 22 at 8 a.m. at NHTI. “Quonquer the Quad” features teams of four competing in a variety of events on the course designed by NHTI alumnus Eric Marsh of FIT (Fun Intelligent Training). Special prizes will be awarded to the top teams along with shirts for the first 12 teams to register. All proceeds will benefit the Jen Kemp Scholarship fund for NHTI students.
