Georgia WR Mitchell hurts knee celebrating, lost for the season
Georgia receiver Malcolm Mitchell will miss the remainder of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Saturday’s loss at Clemson.
Mitchell, the leading returning receiver for the No. 5 Bulldogs, hurt his knee when jumping up to celebrate with a teammate following Todd Gurley’s 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. No. 8 Clemson beat Georgia 38-35.
Coach Mark Richt said Mitchell may have been jumping up to chest-bump a teammate “and landed in a bad way.”
Georgia opens its Southeastern Conference schedule against No. 6 South Carolina on Saturday.
