AHL rookie scores first goal to lift Monarchs past Sharks

Mike Ullrich scored his first AHL goal and it proved to be the game-winner as the Manchester Monarchs topped the Worcester Sharks, 4-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena last night.

Ullrich broke a 1-1 tie 1:46 into the second period, getting assists from Hunter Bishop and Andrew Bodnarchuk on the goal.

Manchester (12-3-1-2) put the game away with two goals in the third period, the first from Scott Sabourin (assisted by Andrew Campbell and Derek Forbort) at 7:21 and the next one from Brandon Kozun (assisted by Nick Deslauriers) at 17:20.

Sean Backman put Manchester on top 1-0 at 3:54 of the first period, but Worcester (5-8-1-0) tied it a 1-all at 7:22.

Manchester goalie Jean-Francoise Berube (3-2-0) earned the win by stopping 22 of 23 shots

The Monarchs host the Providence Bruins tonight at 7.
