Pearson’s hat trick lifts Monarchs over Sound Tigers, 3-1
Tanner Pearson scored just 2:29 into the game to give the Monarchs a lead they wouldn’t relinquish, and the left wing scored on each of his three shots in Manchester’s 3-1 victory yesterday over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
The win moved the Atlantic Division-leading Monarchs to 19-5-1-4, 10 points ahead of second-place St. John’s. Bridgeport (10-13-1-3) is in fourth place in the AHL’s Northeast Division.
Pearson struck again just 3:20 into the second period, doubling Manchester’s lead. Bridgeport pulled within a goal when Sean Wiles scored his first of the season less than two minutes into the third period, but goalie J.F. Berube slammed the door from there, finishing with 24 saves. Pearson completed his hat trick with an empty-netter, his 10th goal of the season, in the final two minutes.
Defenseman Vincent LoVerde dished out two assists for Manchester.
