It took six years and seven rounds, but another player from the University of New Hampshire has been drafted into the NFL. Defensive tackle Jared Smith was taken by the Seattle Seahawks yesterday with the 35th pick in the seventh round (No. 241 overall, a compensatory selection). The last UNH player selected was cornerback Corey Graham, who went to the Bears in the fifth round of the 2007 draft, but made a name for himself during Baltimore’s run to the Super Bowl title last year.

The 6-foot-3, 302-pound Smith, who is from Greencastle, Pa., was a three-year starter for the Wildcats and finished his career with 129 tackles, including 26 tackles for a loss and 12.5 sacks. Last season as a senior, Smith led the team with nine tackles for a loss, four sacks and three blocked kicks and earned multiple postseason honors, including All-CAA First Team and College Sports Journal FCS All-American.
