Celtics beat Knicks, 111-81, for first preseason win
Rookie Kelly Olynyk had 15 points and six rebounds and the Boston Celtics got their first preseason win under new Coach Brad Stevens, beating New York, 111-81, last night in Manchester as the Knicks rested Carmelo Anthony and four other veterans.
The Celtics, winless in their first three games, scored the first 10 points and never trailed. Boston started the third quarter with a 20-5 run against a JV version of the Knicks, who were playing their third game in four nights and left Anthony on the bench rather than take any risks with the NBA’s reigning scoring champion.
Ike Diogu led the Knicks (1-2) with 21 points and eight rebounds, including five on the offensive end.
Avery Bradley and Jordan Crawford scored 13 apiece for the Celtics and Jared Sullinger finished with 12 points and five rebounds. MarShon Brooks scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half as the Celtics let their younger players finish off the rout.
