AUGUSTINE FORNOR

School: Concord

Class: Senior

Honors: The center back, a First Team Division I All-State selection, was the lynchpin for the Crimson Tide’s back four, which helped Concord hold its opponents to 0.53 goals per game and led the Tide to the D-I semifinals.

What was the highlight of your season? Always being there for my team when they needed me the most. And also being part of a great high school team, I couldn’t ask for any other high school soccer team.

Who was the unsung hero of the Concord High team? I think it was my good friend Daniel Nkhalamba, but I’m not really sure.

What are your two favorite fields to play on in New Hampshire? My home soccer field in Concord and Stellos Stadium (in Nashua). But the field doesn’t really matter, it’s the way you play the game that really matters in soccer.

What’s the most important skill for a central defender? When I started playing soccer I was a left back and I still play left back. I only started playing center back in high school this year, and one of the most important skills you will gain as a center back is being able to lead your team and give your teammates someone to look up to. Also as a center back there’s a lot of pressure on you because one mistake can cost you a game; that’s why as a center defender you have to limit your mistakes.

Other than scoring a goal, what’s your favorite thing to do on a soccer field? Leading my team, and to take on people who are better than me. But I only play soccer because I love playing the game, it’s my life, and it’ll always be my life.

When did you start playing soccer and who got you started? I started when I was maybe 9 or 10 years old. I haven’t been playing for that long like my friends have been. But I only became good at soccer because I had to put hard work into it, by playing people who were older and better. I didn’t get any special training like my friends did when I was young, I started getting special training when I made my Academy team.

Do you follow professional soccer? Who is your favorite team? Player? Yes I do and my favorite team is Real Madrid and my favorite player is Sergio Ramos.

Last year you played for Seacoast United instead of Concord – why did you decide to play for Concord this year? It’s a long story really, but I came back because I wanted to play with my friends again. It was a hard decision for me to make, but seeing the team from last year only winning two games made me come back for my team.

Are you happy with the decision? I am happy with my decision, but I miss playing for my Academy soccer team, I have learned a lot from the program.

Do you have any superstitions when it comes to soccer? Not that I know of, no. I just go out there to do my best no matter who my opponents are.

How would you improve high school soccer in New Hampshire? There’s nothing really to improve, and I say this because we have good coaches all around this state who are committed to their team.

What other sport do you wish you were good at? I don’t really have an answer to this question. Because I believe that God gave me an opportunity to be good at soccer, and it’s up to me to work hard and find my limits.

If you could go to any sporting event, what would it be? I would choose to go to a professional soccer game, to watch Real Madrid play.

What was the last sporting event you paid to go see? I would have to say when I went to the high school football games or high school basketball games.

If someone was going to make a movie of the Concord High soccer season, what actor would you want to play you? The person I would choose to play as me in this movie is Chris Tucker, just because he’s a funny person.

Who would play Coach Dunlop? I don’t really know who would play him, it would be up to you.

What’s your favorite television show? I would have to say maybe Law & Order, or a new TV show called Arrow, but I mostly watch Law & Order.

What’s your most visited website? It depends. I mostly go on Facebook, but I mostly use the internet to do online shopping for soccer cleats.

What’s your favorite thing to search for on YouTube? When I go on YouTube I am mostly searching for Sergio Ramos videos, who is my idol.

What’s your favorite food? I don’t really have a favorite food, but I eat what I know is healthy for me.”

What’s the best advice you ever got? The best advice I’ve ever gotten was on my Academy soccer team, and it was mostly on defensive tips.

What’s your favorite holiday? I like all holidays, but I love Christmas more than any other holidays.

If you could trade places with anyone in the world for a week, who would it be and what would you do? I would choose Sergio Ramos and the reason is because I want to see how it feels to be a professional soccer player.

If you won $25 million in the lottery what would you do with the money? This is a big dream, but it wouldn’t hurt to say. But what I would do with that money is help start a professional soccer team, and the reason why is this state needs a professional team for soccer lovers to look up to, and little kids to still believe in their dreams.
