Coe-Brown’s Parker takes third in 800 at New Balance Nationals

Hannah Parker, a junior at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy, finished third yesterday in the 800 meters at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor track and field championships, improving three places on last year’s finish and earning her second straight All-America status.

Raevyn Rogers, a senior from Houston, grabbed the early lead yesterday and was unchallenged for the title, winning in 2:04.88. Parker stayed just behind in third for most of the first 400 meters before moving into second. She stayed there until being passed with about 200 meters to go, finishing less than a second behind the runner-up in 2:06.85.

Parker was unable to defend her New England title in the 800 on Saturday after opting to compete at the nationals on the campus of North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C. But her time yesterday would have beaten this year’s New England champion by four seconds.
