Describe your season in one word. Exciting!
What is the most memorable moment of your tennis career at Bishop Brady? When Katie MacMullin and I beat St. Thomas’s doubles team in the state tournament quarterfinals this year. It was sweet revenge because we had lost to them in the team semifinals.
What is the best part of your game (serving, volleys, forehand, etc)? My volleys are my best and favorite part of my game.
Which is more difficult – singles or doubles? Why? Doubles is more difficult because if you make a mistake you hurt your partner and yourself. Also, in doubles there is always a risk of hitting your partner in the head with a serve! (Sorry Katie MacMullin!!)
What are your ideal match conditions? 75 degrees, but with no sun and no wind and no bugs! I don’t think we had a single match like this all year.
Do you have any pre-match superstitions or rituals? Not really, I am not a superstitious person. One thing I always do, though, is wear a visor or headband and braid my hair, because I can’t stand when my hair is in my face!
Who is the unsung hero of the team? My teammates this year were the nicest group of kids I have ever played with. They all supported each other, and as a result the season was super fun. I realized this during our first few matches in sub-zero temperatures which lasted well into the night. Not a single girl left the matches early; that shows you something!
Who is the toughest opponent you’ve faced? Camille Hankel from Hanover – she is a really great player.
Who is your favorite tennis player? Why? John Isner! He is super tall, American, and he isn’t bratty. I predict a Wimbledon victory for him this year :)
If you had to change Bishop Brady’s team name from the Green Giants, what other name would you pick? Polar Bears. Although a green polar bear would be hideous!
If you could go to any professional sporting event, what would it be? Wimbledon. It has such a prestigious history, and the opportunity to see the best tennis players in the world would be amazing.
What other sports do you play? What other sports do you wish you played? I also play ice hockey and some golf. Growing up I played lacrosse, too. Sometimes I wish I played volleyball or basketball where my height would be more of an advantage.
Who is your role model? My parents and my five siblings all serve as my role models.
What is your dream vacation? Summers spent on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, swimming, sailing and sun tanning!
If you could be on any reality show, which would you pick? Food Network Chopped! I love to cook and I like a good competition.
If you could travel through time, where and when would you go? America during the roaring ’20s. It seems like such a fun, exciting and hopeful time.
What are your plans for next year? Do they include tennis? Next year I am attending Northeastern University on an ice hockey scholarship, so I think that means I can’t play tennis, too. I do hear they have a really big tennis club program, so if I ever have free time I will be sure to stop in and check it out!
