New Hampshire beats Vermont, 6-1, in annual field hockey battle

New Hampshire scored five second-half goals – sparked by an unassisted strike from Hopkinton’s Brittany Marshall – on the way to a dominating 6-1 victory over Vermont in the 31st annual Twin State Field Hockey Classic at Castleton State University on Friday.

Marshall scored five minutes into the second half to make it 2-0, then after Vermont cut the lead to 2-1 with 16:17 remaining, Derryfield’s Colbi Vaillancourt scored twice in a little more than a minute to put the game away. New Hampshire’s final goal, with 3.4 second left, came from Newfound’s Amanda Plummer off an assist from Merrimack Valley’s Erin Frost.

New Hampshire outshot Vermont, 27-2. Both Kendra Lonergan of Winnisquam and Kelsey Federico of Windham made one save in the New Hampshire net.

Bow’s Katie Lawson was also on the New Hampshire squad.
