High schools: John Stark boys’ soccer team opens with a win, 1-0 over Kennett
John Stark 1, Kennett 0
Key players: John Stark – Freshmen keeper Chase Patterson (six saves for first career victory and shutout), Jackson Easter (good game at both midfield and defense), Ryan Nelson and Jake Reynolds (played well); Kennett – Keepers Camden Clark and Camden Labrie (combined for 14 saves)
Highlights/key moments: After a slow start to the game, John Stark slowly gained control especially in the second half. If not for some great saves by the Kennett keepers the score could have been higher. The goal was scored in the 74th minute on a great thru ball by Tim Currier to Kyle Clements, who got to the ball just before the keeper and after the collision was able to get up and put the ball away.
Coach’s quote: “I was proud of how the team kept working and didn’t get frustrated with all the missed opportunities. They kept plugging away and finally were rewarded with a goal,” Stark’s Jeff Vogt said.
Team records: John Stark 1-0; Kennett 0-1
