High school girls’ Alpine skiing Player of the Season

Danielle Gould

Bow girls’ Alpine skiing

Gould excelled in giant slalom in the big meets, taking third to lead Bow to a runner-up finish in Division III, placing sixth in the Meet of Champions, and 19th at the Eastern High School Championships.

Q: What was the highlight of your season?

A: The highlight of my season was the second run of GS at the state championship. This was a great moment for me because as I was coming down the course, I knew if I wanted to win as a team I couldn’t just hope others would pull it off, but that I had to work for it, too. So I put everything I had into that run! And I just knew it was my best run even before I saw my time, because I had been aggressive, and really went for it. I had that feeling when I crossed the finish line, that I’d left everything I had on the hill, so that was a great day for me, and I walked away happy because I knew I had done my best.

Q: Who was the unsung hero of the team?

A: I might be biased, but my sister, Collette Gould, worked harder than anyone. She never took breaks at practice, and always gave 100%. Collette placed 2nd at the state championship for SL, qualified for MOC’s and qualified for Easterns.

Q: What’s the toughest thing about high school Alpine racing?

A: The toughest thing about high school Alpine racing is remembering everything. There’s a lot of equipment!

Q: What’s the best thing about it?

A: The best thing about Alpine racing is that it is both a team and an individual event. So personally you can do well, but whether you win depends on the team, too. I feel this fosters competitiveness, as well as team camaraderie.

Q: How long have you been racing?

A: I have been racing since I was 10, so 7 years.

Q: What’s your favorite place to ski in New Hampshire?

A: I am biased, but I grew up skiing at Attitash, so that’s my favorite place to ski in NH.

Q: If you could ski anywhere, where would you go?

A: If I could ski anywhere I would go to Chamonix and ski the Alps.

Q: If you weren’t skiing in the winter what would you be doing?

A: If I wasn’t skiing in the winter I’d be enjoying my Friday nights, sleeping in on Saturday mornings, and training for another half-marathon.

Q: What other sport do you wish you were good at?

A: I wish I was good at bobsledding. Cool Runnings looks like way too much fun!

Q: If you could go to any sporting event, what would it be?

A: If I could to go any sporting event it’d be anything but the Daytona 500: “Look, they’re making a left turn!” Maybe the Summer Olympics in Río to watch Kerri Walsh play beach volleyball.

Q: What’s your favorite subject in school?

A: AP European History – my teacher is fantastic.

Q: What class would you like help with?

A: My worst class is AP Macroeconomics.

Q: What’s your favorite place to eat and what do you like to get there?

A: Abe and Louie’s Steakhouse in Boston, Mass. I usually order filet mignon, mashed potatoes and a caesar salad. Buffalo Wild Wings is a close second.

Q: What’s your favorite website?

A: I don’t really surf the web … or shop online … Facebook?

Q: What’s your most played song right now?

A: This season a friend (Jenna Peabody) and I listened to the song “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line to get us pumped up for our runs.

Q: Preferred social media: Facebook, Twitter, other (and what is it), or none?

A: Facebook – wonderful way to do something unproductive.

Q: What do you like to search for on YouTube?

A: I rarely use YouTube … unless to look up a song.

Q: If someone made a movie of the Bow ski season, who would you want to play you?

A: Well, Sandra Bullock is my favorite actress, but maybe Samantha Barks from Les Mis – I wish I could sing like her.

Q: Who would play Coach Cummings?

A: Anyone but Vince Vaughn … George Clooney?

Q: If you could trade places with anyone in the world for a week, who would it be and what would you do?

A: Obviously Kate Middleton!! Who wouldn’t want to be a princess for a week?! I’d borrow some clothes from her closet, maybe check out the crown jewels, attend a fancy dinner, who knows … maybe meet a prince?

Q: If you won $25 million in the lottery, what would you spend the money on?

A: If I won $25 million in the lottery I’d buy a cruise ship and travel around the world.
