Concord’s Kennard is Gatorade Player of the Year for softball

Concord High senior Katie Kennard was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for New Hampshire softball yesterday, becoming the third Crimson Tide player in the last five years to win the award.

Paige Hansen won in 2009, and Kelsey Martel in 2010.

Kennard, a pitcher and first baseman, is hitting a team-best .492 and also leads the Tide in RBI (26) and slugging percentage (.635). In the circle, she’s 12-1 with a 1.66 ERA and 0.86 WHIP, helping lead Concord (19-2) into tomorrow’s Division I championship game.

Kennard, who maintains a 90.4 average in the classroom, will be attending and playing softball for Plymouth State University next year.
