The Insiders: How did people Google twerking in 1948?
Did you graduate from Concord High School in 1948? If so, tell us about a world without smartphones, the internet and Miley Cyrus! Back in your day, you probably had to twerk 10 miles to school – uphill both ways – and you didn’t even have the technology to Google “twerk” to find out what it meant! All you ’48ers will have plenty of time to reminisce on those bygone days if you attend today’s class reunion at the Grappone Conference Center. Meet there at 11 for a photo (which only takes seconds these days – no need to stand perfectly still for upward of half an hour, Matthew Brady-style) and then have lunch at noon (sugar rationing is not in effect!). For more information, call Pauline Healy at 224-1945.
Elsewhere, it’s pet day at the Concord Arts Market. Bring your costumed pet down to Bicentennial Square from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and join in the fun – and maybe even support some local artists while you’re at it!
Journalist, photographer, author and soon-to-be dinner eater David Bacon speaks at the Unitarian Universalist Church tonight at a benefit dinner for the American Friends Service Committee. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. For more information, call 224-2407.
Finally, Centerpoint Church hosts its annual block party on North State Street from 1 to 5 p.m. This free event features games, food, a climbing wall, a mechanical surfboard and the unveiling of the church’s new Kidzone – the whole second floor of the church has been transformed into a replica Main Street!
