Previews of local schools’ NHIAA playoff matchups

Division III first round
No. 20 Monadnock (3-8-5) at No. 13 Belmont (8-7-1), 3 p.m.
Head to head: The teams did not meet during the regular season.
Notes: The edge is certainly with the Raiders, who carry some momentum into the postseason. Belmont won three of its final four games, allowing just three total goals in those four matches. The final two wins were among the Raiders most impressive, with them beating No. 8 Laconia and No. 7 White Mountains. After opening the season winless in its first six games, Monadnock went 3-4-3 down the stretch, but those three wins were against teams that didn’t make the playoffs.
No. 19 Hillsboro-Deering (5-7-4)
at No. 14 Sanborn (8-8-0), 3 p.m.
Head to head: Sanborn edged H-D, 2-1, in September.
Notes: H-D could be a scary opponent for some higher ranked teams. The Hillcats played the division’s finest tough, losing by a single goal to No. 2 Bow and just 2-0 to top-ranked Hopkinton, and beating No. 6 Stevens, 2-0. The same can be said of Sanborn, which split with both No. 5 Raymond and No. 4 Prospect Mountain, and lost by two goals to both Bow and Hopkinton, and won three of its final four games. H-D will need to get its offense back on track, however, after being shut out in its final three regular-season games.
