MV football’s fate still in doubt

After some more thorough math, it appears the Merrimack Valley High football team has not quite clinched its first playoff berth in the program’s history, as we reported on Sunday.

Though the Pride is close to clinching, a few crazy scenarios could still mathematically eliminate MV from the postseason. If MV beats Plymouth on Saturday, it’s in. If St. Thomas loses to Trinity on Friday, MV is in. But if MV loses and St. Thomas wins, then both teams’ fates lie with teams they beat during the season, since playoff seeding is determined by the NHIAA’s point rating system, where teams earn 10 points for each win and two points for each win by a team it has beaten and the total points are divided by number of games played.
