Two late goals give Monarchs 4-2 win over Worcester

Nick Shore scored twice, including the game-winner with 67 seconds left to play, to give the Manchester Monarchs a 4-2 victory yesterday over the Worcester Sharks.

After Shore had given the Monarchs the lead in the second period, Worcester’s Brodie Reid scored 6:20 into the third period to even the game at 2-2. Just when it appeared the game was headed to overtime, Shore struck again, with assists from Zach O’Brien and Ian O’Connor, to put Manchester on top. Brian O’Neill provided an empty-netter for insurance.

Manchester’s Colin Fraser and Worcester’s Dan DaSilva traded first-period goals.

Worcester outshot the Monarchs, 32-19, but Mathias Niederberger kept Manchester in it with 30 saves.

The victory keeps the Monarchs (36-14-2-6) firmly atop the Atlantic Division with 80 points. Worcester (23-25-3-1) is in fourth place with 50 points.
