Fisher Cats fall to Fightin Phils for fourth straight loss

A bad start

The Reading Fightin Phils reached New Hampshire starter Deck McGuire for three runs in the first inning on their way to a 4-1 victory last night, sending the Fisher Cats (2-4) to their fourth straight loss.

McGuire (1-1) allowed 10 hits, one walk and four runs in just 4.2 innings of work. He struck out four and saw his ERA rise to 3.60.

Jon Berti (1-for-4) drove in New Hampshire’s run with a sixth-inning single, plating Mike Crouse (1-for-2), who had singled and stole second base. Leadoff hitter Kenny Wilson was the Fishers’ only player with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4.

The Fisher Cats play their home opener today against the Binghamton Mets at 6:35 p.m. Austin Bibens-Dirkx (0-0, 1.29) pitches for New Hampshire against Darin Gorski (0-0, 2.45).
