Swihart has big hit as Sea Dogs rout Fisher Cats

Blake Swihart hit a three-run homer to cap off the first of Portland’s consecutive four-run innings and the visiting Sea Dogs went on to a 10-3 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats last night.

Swihart, a top Red Sox catching prospect, went deep against Fisher Cats starter Daniel Norris. Portland then hit five consecutive singles off Norris in the fourth – two of them literally hitting the pitcher – before he was yanked from the game. Overall, Norris allowed eight runs on eight hits in three innings.

Portland starter Henry Owens cruised to the victory after getting the early lead, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing two runs on nine hits. He improved to 13-3 and lowered his ERA to 2.25.

Dalton Pompey, Andy Burns, Matt Newman, K.C. Hobson and Jorge Flores each had two hits to lead the Fisher Cats’ offense.

The teams meet again today at 1:35 p.m.
