Pierre’s dramatic ninth-inning homer lifts Fisher Cats to 4-3 victory

Gustavo Pierre hit a two-out, two-run homer – his first long ball at the Double-A level – in the top of the ninth inning, lifting the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 4-3 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats last night.

Pinch-hitter Sean Ochinko singled to left field to keep the inning alive, then Pierre went deep on the eighth pitch of his at-bat.

Richard Bleier (6-5) earned the victory by tossing a scoreless eighth inning. Gregory Infante recorded his 22nd save, moving him within two saves of the single-season team record.

K.C. Hobson went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs for New Hampshire.

The series continues tonight at 7:05, with P.J. Walters (2-2, 2.42) facing New Britain’s Taylor Rogers (10-6, 3.42).
