Patriots sign Steelers WR Sanders to offer sheet

According to league sources via ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New England Patriots signed Pittsburgh Steelers restricted free agent Emmanuel Sanders to an offer sheet, forcing the Steelers to match if they want to keep the wide receiver.

The offer sheet is for one year and $2.5 million, which know forces a response from Pittsburgh. The Steelers have until Sunday to decide whether they’d rather match the Patriots’ offer and keep the player, or lose Sanders and instead receive the compensation, which would be a third-round pick in April’s draft.

Sanders caught 44 passes for 626 yards and one touchdown last year, and if he heads to New England, he would join a receiving corps that has undergone a major overhaul in the offseason. Gone are starters Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd, and the Patriots have signed Danny Amendola, Donald Jones and Michael Jenkins in their place.
