McGuire, Van Kirk lead Fisher Cats to third straight win

Deck McGuire pitched six strong innings and Brian Van Kirk belted a home run and a triple to lead the Fisher Cats to a 6-3 victory over the Reading Fightin Phils last night, extending New Hampshire’s winning streak to three.

McGuire (4-7) allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out five. He didn’t issue a walk for the first time this season.

Van Kirk led an eight-hit attack, going 2-3 with two RBI and two runs. Adam Loewen was 2-4 with an RBI, A.J. Jimenez extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a two-hit night, and Ryan Schimpf hit his league-leading 14th homer of the season.

New Hampshire (36-40) and Reading (32-43) meet again tonight at 7:05. Ryan Tepera (6-5, 4.43) pitches for the Fishers against Jesse Biddle (3-7, 3.29).
