McGuire shuts down Reading as Fisher Cats win, 7-3

Still in the running

Deck McGuire retired the first 18 batters he faced and Kenny Wilson and Jack Murphy had three hits apiece as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats topped the Reading Fightin Phils, 7-3, yesterday to keep their postseason hopes alive.

The Fisher Cats (66-67) remain three games behind the Trenton Thunder for the second playoff berth in the Eastern Division.

McGuire (9-9) allowed two runs on two hits in seven innings to improve to 4-0 in August. He walked one and struck out seven.
