Story Land, the theme park north of Conway that has drawn families since 1954, wants everybody to know that online rumors about its closing are untrue.

“Please do not believe everything you read on the internet. Story Land is not closing its doors for good this fall” the company wrote on its official Facebook page on Friday morning.

The comment came in response to an unsourced claim on a New Hampshire website about the upcoming shut-down of this state institution – a claim that generated a lot of questions and alarm on social media.

Story Land was opened in the tiny town of Glen in 1954 by Bob and Ruth Morrell of North Conway, owners of the Eastern Slope Ice Cream Co. It started with some German dolls, added a few rides, and over time grew to encompass 20 acres, with a host of family-oriented rides.

The Morrells sold Story Land in 2007. It is now owned by Palace Entertainment, the American arm of Spanish entertainment firm Parques Reunidos.
