I've been watching the big mortgage giants fold one by one with cynical amusement.
Several years ago my wife went against my wishes and got one of those no-good mortgages. I had told her, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." And, yes, we lost our house.
These crooked, lying s.o.b.s turned our dream into a nightmare.
All this talk of a bailout - how about bailing me…

Now that oil prices are dropping slightly, I reckon we are suppose to be happy about gas at $3.90 a gallon. I'm not. It is a con game - again.
We will never get over this crisis as long as our government is in bed with Big Oil! There are plenty of areas to drill for oil: offshore and Alaska - the wildlife will just have to cope with it. Alternative fuels are ready for use; it only…

It's time to get serious about lifting the prohibition on marijuana. Marijuana was only made illegal because of the foulest racist lies imaginable.
I would like to believe we are beyond the mind-set of the 1930s. Passage of this House bill will tell if we are.
An entire new industry can be born from lifting the ban on marijuana. Marijuana has a three-fold use: industrial, medical…

I think it's disgusting that the owner of the Red Roof Inn on the Concord/Loudon line doubles the weekend rates on race weekends, but then again greed does run our world (" 'It would not be good if they take the races away,' " Monitor front page, Nov. 2).

Regarding the new smoking ban in bars and restaurants: Congratulations to all who bent over backward to inflict their will on private business owners.
Since I never go to bars and very rarely go to a restaurant, this ban won't affect me at all. As a smoker I am amused by non-smokers and their bid to rid all the world of smokers. Smoking is not a right - it's a choice. We all have…

After watching the video of the McKay/Kenney shooting several times, I can't help but think here was a bully cop who went looking for a fight - and found one.

I am not at all surprised that sex offenders have a rough time in prison.
Prison is a very hostile environment. It's an upside-down, inside-out world on the other side of those walls. Those who have never had the misfortune to be sent to prison can never understand or comprehend. Violence can erupt at any moment, for any reason. The Hancock Building is a powder keg ready to blow…

I have been hearing how New Hampshire is the only state without an adult seat-belt law. No question this would save lives in the event of a wreck.
Another lifesaver would be for drivers to turn on their headlights in adverse weather. During the storms last month, while driving home from work, I counted dozens of cars without their lights on. In whiteouts and heavy rain, it's difficult…

As a faithful reader of Doonesbury for over 30 years, I am in total agreement with the kids from Trinity School but for different reasons. Doonesbury does show a lack of humor at times, but that's because a lot of what Gary Trudeau writes about is not funny.
When the character B.D. woke up from being wounded in Iraq to find his leg gone and screamed out, "Son of a bitch," that was…
