Deal would destroy habitat

I am writing in response to a deceptive ad by the "Patenaude family of businesses" in Henniker, asking for support for Warrant Article 15 to allow them to purchase Town Lot 98 in order to construct a road for their quarry operation. They state that it is a "win-win-win" for the town, that it will reduce air pollution, increase safety and promote "quiet and tranquility." Nothing… 8

Contrary to the public interest

On Wednesday, the Henniker Zoning Board will hear Laidlaw Power's request for a variance to construct a power plant in Henniker. One test for granting a variance is whether the proposed development will serve the public interest. In this case, the answer is clearly "no." After attending the planning board hearing Wednesday night, I want to thank the Henniker Conservation Commission for its hard work researching and preparing handouts, maps and displays. We are fortunate to have volunteers with such expertise and talent who are willing to sacrifice personal time on what must feel like a thankless task.
