Dangerous bill

The last thing our country needs is higher energy prices, yet that is precisely what legislators are planning to do via cap-and-trade legislation called the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. This is a wolf in sheep's clothing that will only weaken our country. Energy is the lifeblood of our nation's economic engine. 32

Forget the money; here's a New Hampshire-style compromise

Only half the states actually have primary seatbelt laws, but a number of those with secondary laws are now trying to get primary laws passed by June 1 to be eligible for the federal highway funds incentive. The question is: Why have so many states been dragging their feet on this? It's a question our legislators should ask, because there is a huge difference between being able… 0

No problem; not manmade

In "Fix economy, energy crisis together" ("Our Turn," Sunday Monitor, Dec. 7), John Mendolusky and Rob Kerth stated that emissions from the heating oil we burn contribute to worldwide climate change that puts us at risk, listing some of the supposed risks as more expensive groceries, crop failures, disease and threats to certain New Hampshire industries. It never ceases to amaze… 15

Ill-informed yammering

In the May 23 editorial, "Congress should give green power a break," the Monitor stated that, "The nation's goal should be to rely as little as possible as soon as possible on burning the fuels that cause global warming." 0

Get ready for the 'Little Ice Age'

The idiotic pseudo-science of the anthropogenic global warming hypothesis is collapsing like a house of cards, propped up only by politicians, greed and propaganda from the media, including this paper. Ice core data clearly show that for most of the past 500 million years CO2 levels were many times higher than today's 384 ppm. Yet three of four major Ice Age periods existed during… 0

Weak science

Many in the man-made global-warming climate-change crowd like to claim that there is a consensus and that "the debate is over." Since their arguments are based primarily on emotion instead of science, they use ad hominem attacks against anyone who dares contradict their ill-founded belief. The science behind man-made global warming was never strong and continually grows weaker.… 0

Climate-change debate is not over

Many people believe the hype, hysteria and outright lies about man-made global warming. Some even get downright nasty if you dare question their belief. 0

The myth of man-made warming

In Robert Bundy's Jan. 1 letter, "Act now on warming," he says the globe is warming and asks "but do we really get it?" For anyone who has bothered to check the actual science instead of simply believing the media hype and a movie based on global warming hysteria, I have to say yes, we do get it, but he obviously doesn't. 0

Lies and distortions

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is not a scientific body but a governmental and bureaucratic one which bases all of its claims on the assumption that we humans are causing climate change. It has no interest in the fact that climate change has always occurred, nor the causes of those climate changes. This is not science, but ideology. 0

Where's the science?

If the recent Concord Monitor editorial on global warming proves anything, it is that for Global Warmers it is all about political correctness and nothing to do with science ("Candidates gamble by being cool to warming," Oct. 12). According to them anyway, "the debate is over." They wish. Unfortunately for them, no matter how loud they shout, eventually the truth will come out about… 0

Pittsfield's needs

It seems the more ignorant people are of the town of Pittsfield, the more they like to bash it. We've been here for 26 years, and love it here. No town is without its problems. Our biggest is an extremely low tax base and an archaic tax system based on the property tax, which our wishy-washy, do-nothing governor refuses to fix. A state income tax is what we need, and have needed… 0

What a joke

I almost busted a gut from laughing when I saw the article "Browns commended for civil disobedience" (Monitor, June 26), in which the Republican presidential candidate compares the Browns to Mahatma Gandhi or Martin Luther King. My hat is off to the Monitor and reporter Margot Sanger-Katz. Keep the jokes coming! BRUCE COBB Pittsfield 0

Dogmatism

To Sen. John Sununu: I want to preface this letter by saying I'm a Democrat and haven't voted for you (though that could change in the next election). The issue of manmade global warming seemed like a slam dunk for me until fairly recently when I began to look into it via the web. What I saw about the "science" of global warming disturbed me greatly. 0
